PARTICIPATION:   The BRYC Boys’ house league basketball program is an equal playing time participation league. Listed below are provisions for equal playing time.

(a).   Each and every player on the team must start and complete one period in each half of the game except for disciplinary reasons, illness, injury or some other logical purpose a player cannot or should not participate in the game. If the reason is disciplinary, the League Director must approve the action prior to the start of the game.  It is not necessary to attempt to rotate players during the game so that participation is equalized at interim points before the end of the game. The table below shows how the periods should be divided for various numbers of players when teams play either 6 or 8 periods.

Players                       6 Periods                                                    8 Periods

10                         each plays 3 periods                                    each plays 4 periods

9                           3 play 4 periods, 6 play 3 periods               4 play 5 periods, 5 play 4 periods

8                           6 play 4, 2 play 3 periods                            each play 5 periods

7                           5 play 4 periods, 2 play 5 periods               5 play 6 periods, 2 play 5 periods

6                           each plays 5 periods                                    4 play 7 periods, 2 play 6 periods

(b).   If players are absent or if a player comes late, leaves early, fouls out or leaves because of injury, the extra periods should be spread out so that no one plays more that one period more than the number of periods played by any other player who is available for the entire game. Substitutions can be made any time due to an injury or disqualification of a player for fouls or disciplinary reasons. A substitution player who enters a game due to a player’s injury or disqualification may play that period without that period counting towards the incoming player. Only the players who start a period are charged with participation.

(c).   It is the coach's responsibility to keep track of participation. Excessive play by one or more players, even though inadvertent, can result in forfeiture of a game. Opposing coaches should also try to alert their opponents’ of possible violations before they occur.  It would be very undesirable to have to change the results of a well-played game merely because of a technicality.

OVERTIME:

(a).   Games that end in a tie will go into overtime. Each overtime period will consist of 3 minutes.  After 2 overtime periods, if the game is still tied, the game will go to "sudden death" with the first team to score declared the winner. A jump ball will start each overtime period.

(b).   Each team will be allowed one extra timeout for each overtime period played. Previous timeout periods may be accumulated and used during overtime.

(c).   The participation requirements stated above will not apply to overtime periods.

TIMER/SCOREKEEPER:

Each team will furnish one adult to act as either timekeeper or scorekeeper. The first team shown in the schedule is the Home team. The Home team will provide the scorekeeper, and the Visiting team the timekeeper.

ABUSIVE CONDUCT:

(a).  Two technical fouls: If a coach receives two technical fouls during a game, he or she will be ejected from the game and must leave the gym.

(b).  Foul or abusive language: If a player, coach or team representative is ejected from a game for use of foul or abusive language, he/she shall be automatically suspended from the next game.  The Commissioner may also convene an ad hoc committee to determine whether the suspension should be for more than one game. The committee may set a more severe penalty in accordance with the severity of the offense.

(c).  Violent conduct by a player: If a player is ejected from a game for a flagrant foul or after receiving a second technical foul and ejection, the offending player shall be automatically suspended for the next game. The Commissioner may also convene an ad hoc committee to determine whether the suspension should be for more than one game. The committee may set a more severe penalty in accordance with the severity of the offense.

(d).  Violent conduct by a coach or team representative: If a coach or team representative is ejected from a game for hitting or shoving another person, the coach or representative shall be automatically suspended for the remainder of the season.

(e).   Violent conduct toward an official: Any player, coach or team representative who hits or shoves an official shall be automatically suspended for the remainder of the season.

(f).  When a game official ejects a player, coach or team representative:  Both team coaches must report the action to the Commissioner within 48 hours.
